We haven't reallly counted, but we do know that we produce more lighter colored Bologcos than darker ones, so we have more pictures of the lighter colored ones. And as puppies we try to decide if the puppy is either a silver, a platinum, a cream or an apricot.
However, we have found that this mix is subject to "color shifting," which means that as they grow some of them will change colors in that some will grow a darker "overcoat" over a lighter undercoat--or some will lose a darker overcoat and just become lighter colored all over, except for darker ears, which usually stay darker.
And this color shifting is known in a few breeds, like the colored Havanese to which the Bichon Bolognese is related, and is called "color paling" in the Bearded Collies. So although we do designate particular colors to our puppies when advertising them--which is often very helpful telling puppies apart in a litter--we cannot guarantee that any puppy will be the same color once it's grown up!
Below are pictures of some of our lighter colored Bologcos, with some pictures taken here while they were puppies, but some are pictures that have been sent to us by their owners. And the picture across the top of this page is of Sophie, who is from one of our first Bologco litters, shown with her owner Courtney, and they live in Gainesville, Florida. And the picture to the above right is of Tucker, who lives with his family, and his own younger Bologco sister named Ginny in Navarre, Florida.
Above is a picture of Goobie, a silvery-cream colored Bologco boy, taken here at our kennel at about six weeks old. And Goobie lives with his family in Ocala, Florida.
But at seven months old Goobie displayed an almost totally white undercoat, with the palest creamy apricot colored overcoat, which makes us think that this mix has a double-coat in the lighter colors too--and not just in the black masked shaded sables.
And above is a picture of Daisy, Goobie's sister and littermate, taken here at our kennel at about six weeks old. And Goobie and Daisy appeared to have similar coloring at this age.
And actually Daisy appeared to have a slighter darker overcoat and ears than her brother Goobie at six weeks old, as shown in the picture above, where Daisy was busy chewing up the scenery that we had so carefully arranged, trying to take advertising pictures for this litter that would be ready to go to their new homes around the Thanksgiving holidays.
But Daisy at 18 months appears to be a solid white dog--as she looks in all of her adult pictures that have been sent to us, without any darker overcoat color at all. So Daisy's overcoat color lightened up considerably--even on her ears. So the inheritance of coat colors in this mix is highly variable and subject to change over time. And Daisy lives with her family in Yankeetown, Florida.
And above is a picture of Tucker, a light colored littermate to both Goobie and Daisy, but Tucker displayed apricot coloring from the very first, although he does have some white markings on his front and a very pale undercoat.
And Tucker certainly did develop a rather dark apricot overcoat, especially on his ears. And in the picture above Tucker is playing with his younger sister named Ginny, who looks as if she will have the same coloring as Tucker. And Tucker and his family waited almost a year to welcome Ginny into their home, as they wanted a girl with the same coloring and from the same dam as Tucker. And Tucker and Ginny live with their family in Navarre, Florida.
But in this picture of Tucker taken on his first birthday he appears a little lighter in color than by the time that Ginny arrived. And Tucker is featured on quite a few pages of this website.
And above is a picture of Sophie's litter taken at just a few hours old--and Sophie is the cream colored Bologco girl in the picture that goes across the top of this webpage. And the largest and darkest puppy in this litter was a boy, but there were three almost identical girls in the litter, and we are just not sure which one is Sophie in this picture. But all three of the girls were a pale apricot color at birth.
And the above picture is by far one of the cutest pictures of one of the Bologcos that we have ever received, and it shows Sophie as a puppy, yawning.
But in the picture of Sophie above, taken at two years old with her owner Courtney, Sophie definitely appears lighter colored than when she was younger, and Courtney says that Sophie has definitely turned lighter in color over time. And once Courtney was married she and Sophie moved to Madison, Florida, and the family acquired a second solid black Bologco girl.
And we've shown the "before and after" photos at the beginning of this section in "self-defense," as we've found that it's virtually impossible to tell the final color of an adult Bologco from their puppy colors. So we can make no guarantee as to the final color of any Bologco puppy that we sell.
And above is a picture of Luna, who lives with her family in the Tampa Bay area. And Luna shows what a difference a hair cut makes, as she has a bit of a wild and shaggy cut that we think is pretty cute. And Luna is featured both on the top of our Home page and on the top of the Puppy Page of this website. And Luna appears to have a very light colored coat, but has darker ears.
And above is a picture of Morgan, who shows a very strong contrast between her lighter colored body and her much darker apricot colored ears. And Morgan lives with her owner in Salinas, California.
And above is a picture of Gracie Jane Melody, a paler colored Bologco girl who lives with her family in both Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and in New Jersey.
And Bologcos seem to get along with other dogs just fine, and above is a picture of Gracie Jane Melody and friend.
And Ella's owner likes to scrapbook, and we love this page with some of Ella's puppy pictures. And Ella and Gracie Jane Melody are littermates.
And here's a scrapbook page featuring Ella with friends. And Ella lives in Pennsylvania, but visits Long Boat Key, Florida occasionally.
And Comet lives with his family in Old Town, Florida. And Comet is a littermate to both Ella and Gracie Jane Melody.
Piper is a younger sister to Goobie, Daisy and Tucker, but she was much darker in color than any of them as a puppy. And Piper lives with her family in The Villages, Florida.
And this is Piper with her owner and in her Princess outfit.
And this is a picture of one of our lighter colored Bologco girls named Lily, from one of our 2010 litters, shown at six weeks old. And puppies absolutely love to have something in their mouths, even if it is only a leaf.
And cream colored Lily, shown above at about seven months old, is also a merle, as shown by her one partially blue eye. But merle markings don't show up in such a light colored dog as Lily. And Lily still likes to carry things in her mouth.
Lily lives with a white colored Coton de Tulear named Babette in The Villages, Florida.
And Arwen is an apricot colored Bologco girl from a Spring 2010 litter who lives with her family in the Tampa Bay Florida area.
And this cute picture of Arwen, taken while she was sleeping on the couch, shows her white markings on her feet, her chest, and the inside of her legs.
Angelo is an apricot colored Bologco from a Spring 2010 Bologco litter--and Angelo lives with his family in Cranford, Rhode Island.
